Licensing
Enonic publishes documentation and software under several licenses. The applicable license depends on the type of material and, for software, the license identified in its repository or distribution.
Documentation
Unless otherwise stated, documentation text and Enonic-owned technical diagrams published on developer.enonic.com are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
You may copy, redistribute, translate, and adapt this material for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that you:
- credit Enonic AS;
- link to the original material and the CC BY 4.0 license; and
- indicate whether you made changes.
Suggested attribution: "Based on Enonic documentation, © Enonic AS, licensed under CC BY 4.0"
Use of the documentation does not imply endorsement by Enonic AS.
Code Examples
Unless a different license is stated, code examples published as part of the documentation are licensed under the Apache License 2.0.
Exclusions
The following material is not covered by the default documentation license:
- third-party material identified as such;
- customer material;
- screenshots, photographs, videos, or other images;
- Enonic logos, visual identity, and brand assets;
- the developer portal’s software, templates, visual design, or trade dress; or
- material carrying a separate copyright or license notice.
CC BY 4.0 does not grant trademark rights. Nothing in this policy restricts use of Enonic names or product names where permitted by applicable trademark law.
Software
Our software is not covered by the documentation license. The applicable license is stated in each product’s repository or distribution.
Our commitment to open source
Open source is fundamental to how Enonic builds software. We believe open development, transparent source code, and established open-source licenses create better technology and give developers the freedom to understand, extend, and build upon our platform.
Enonic XP and many of our developer libraries and components are open source. We publish their source code and use established open source licenses.
Selected Enonic applications are distributed under the source-available Enonic License. We identify these separately and state the applicable license clearly in Enonic Market and in each source repository.
Enonic XP
Enonic XP is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3 with an additional linking exception. The linking exception allows you to build applications using the platform APIs without requiring those applications to be licensed under the GPL.
Applications, libraries, and starters
Many Enonic libraries and components use open-source licenses such as the Apache License 2.0. Some Enonic applications are distributed under the Enonic License, which is a source-available license.
Apps, libraries, and starters identify their applicable license in Enonic Market and their source repository.
Commercial licensing
Software is provided subject to the warranty and liability terms of its applicable license. Commercial licensing may also be available from Enonic.
